About tellingtime.io
A friendly, free place to learn what the clock is saying.
Why we made it
Telling the time is one of the first big “grown-up” skills a child learns, and it can be tricky. Clocks have two hands, lots of numbers and strange words like “quarter past”.
We wanted a simple site where children can learn step by step, teachers can put it straight on the board, and parents can help without being experts. Our origami fox is here to make it feel fun.
Free, always
Every lesson, game and worksheet is free. There are no accounts, no sign-up and no pay-walls.
Made for ages 5 to 11
The first lessons are for 5 to 7 year olds, with big buttons, friendly colours, short steps and a fox who cheers you on. As children grow, so does the site: older children get calmer pages for time zones, seasons and languages.
UK and US curriculum
Lessons follow the time objectives for Years 1 to 4 in England and the Common Core measurement standards in the USA.
Learner, Teacher, Parent
Each lesson has three tabs: the activity for the child, teaching notes for the classroom, and simple tips for helping at home.
