For teachers and parents

  • • Geography: locating capital cities and continents, and using the Equator and Prime Meridian (UK KS2 geography locational knowledge; US social studies geography).
  • • Time: use the strip under the map to see the time in each band. Ask "If it is 3 pm in London, what time is it in Tokyo?"
  • • Use on the board: project the map, select a city, and discuss whether it is day or night there.
  • • Note: the bands show nominal 15° zones. Real time zones follow country borders, and some use half-hour offsets (for example India and Nepal).
