How to read the exact minute — 3 easy steps

  1. Find the last big number the blue hand has passed, and say its 5s number. (Past the 3? That’s 15.)
  2. Count the little ticks after it: 16, 17, 18…
  3. Say the time: hour hand first, then the minutes. “Four seventeen!”

Fox trick: the tiny ticks are like stairs. Climb up from the last big number, one minute at a time!

On a digital clock

Minutes below 10 get a zero first: 6 minutes past 2 is 2:06.
